Eau d'Ipanema is a perfume with a Latin American soul, shifting easily between tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango, and red berries, and sultry floral notes such as jasmine, orange blossom, fresia, and neroli. There is a sunny, carefree cast to the fragrance - gently spiced fruit and flowers to make you smile, coming to rest in a late afternoon Ipanema beach glow of whipped cream, vanilla, and musk.
This scent is almost as mysterious in character as Carlos Kusubayashi himself, the creative force behind the brand A Lab on Fire. And indeed, a sense of mystery does swirl around Carlos Kusubayashi, a citizen of the world who was born in the Brazilian city of São Paulo, grew up in Japan, and now lives near the Texas town of Marfa.
The name of Ipanema continued to live on in his memory, with strong emotions triggered by that famous song "The Girl from Ipanema", which even today he likes to play in order to slip back into the past. Now Kusubayashi has decided to create a fragrance that recreates the atmosphere of his native Brazil, the memories of his father, and of Ipanema. Carlos leaned on perfumer Jean-Marc Chaillan for this fragrance, as Chaillan is himself married to a Brazilian woman and could therefore be relied upon to faithfully recreate the authentic spirit of Brazil and the aromas that define Rio de Janeiro and its sugar-white beaches.
